Cake is good for you.

Cake is good for you.

It’s true.  There really is no denying it.  Cake is good for you, we have proof!

It seems fitting that blog post no. 1 should act by way of an introduction into who we are, the kind of things we do and what, exactly, we are all about…

Enjoying those warm(er) climes…

So who are we?  Well that one’s fairly straight forward actually, because who we are is basically me, Pennie.  I founded The Boho Bakery earlier this year when I moved back down to the warm(er) climes of the South West after spending a fair few years up north in sunny Scotland.

My highland adventures included stints in both Edinburgh and Glasgow but it was in the West that I eventually settled and it was in the West that I began my baking career, quite by chance really…

I had trained as a Pilates instructor and was working to build up my classes when I managed to get a job as an apprentice baker with the wonderful human beings that make up Three Sisters Bake.  Three women who are as deliciously lovely as they are inspirational.  I shall be forever grateful for the time I got to spend in their company, both business-wise and personally.

It was whilst I was working in the bakeries at TSB that I managed to overcome my long standing eating disorder (don’t fear, the irony is not lost on me!).  I had been suffering from Anorexia for many years… more than I’d care to count actually.  My eating disorder had seen the end of my career as a secondary school teacher and had consumed most of my adult life up until that point.

The exact process of healing still remains a bit of a mystery to me but, through working in the Kitchen, I began to re-establish a positive relationship with food.  Perhaps it was the fact that the pressure of eating the baked goods myself was removed?  Maybe it was the amazing support that I received from my colleagues and the continued encouragement bestowed upon me by my friends and family?  Or it could, of course, have been a combination of all that and more.  All I know is that my renewed love of cake brought freedom, a switch flipped in the anorexic part of my brain and food was to be feared no more.  More over, it was to be enjoyed!

My love of food and baking in particular has continued to grow and now, with many years baking experience, it is a love that I hope to inspire in others by spreading the word, cake really is good for you!
(See ‘THE Good Life’ section of our website for more details of how I plan on doing this!)

It is also a love that I am lucky enough to be able to pour into each and every one of the cakes and bakes that we send out from The Boho Bakery.

Specialising in the bespoke, I work with every one of the customers that come in search of a Boho bake.  There is talk of flavours, styles, colours and much more when it comes to the consultation process and each design is produced, baked and styled by my own fair hands.  It’s a process which ensures that all of our products, from Wedding cakes to Boho boxes and everything in between, taste as good as they look and look as good as the taste.

Check out our all new website for more details of our most popular flavours, photos of previous cake tables and details on how you can order your very own bespoke, Boho bake.  (The links are right at the bottom there…)

So there we have it, a little snap shot of who we are.  The briefest of insights into what we do and a little intro into what we’re about – essentially, we really enjoy cake, like seriously love it, and work extremely hard to make extra specially nice ones so that you can too!

Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea
shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and
said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell
